About the Logo
Our logo is based on a poem written by Drew entitled “My Drum”’. The logo image also incorporates the colors and theme of one of his paintings he called “America”.
“America” pulls from the classic Red, White and Blue American flag but inverts it in a way that makes the corner of the flag appear to be a mountain being hit by red sunbeams, which are the flag’s stripes.
Drew uses a drum as a metaphor for his heart and soul, but also suggests a deeper meaning of purpose. He says the drum beat “has led me through rivers, forests and sands; equally through disparity’s unforgiving hands.”
In the final stanza Drew notes with aspiration: “One day again it will beat proudly a sound, shake down through my body and rattle the ground.”
Drew’s comparison of a life of adventure, built on the purpose and mission of Service, with thinking about the next frontier perfectly captures our aim at Project D.R.E.W..
The logo’s drumsticks symbolize the veteran and songwriter collaboration. They are placed at 1 o’clock or “1300 hours” to represent his national ranking at Ohio University as 13th amongst all ROTC graduates in the nation. This ranking earned him the nickname “The 13th Warrior”.
